GNAC Indoor Conference Championships Preview

The NNU Crusaders are hosting the GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championships for the 9th season in a row this Friday and Saturday Feb 17-18th, at the Jackson's Track & Field complex in Nampa Id. The team has qualified 20 men and 20 women for the championships and the coaches and athletes are eager to welcome the rest of the conference to one of the best tracks in the nation.
 
NNU has already had 5 athletes hit National Provisional qualifying marks during this season. Leading the women's team is Joy Warrington in the Shot Put 16th, 45-8 and the men's team has 3 athletes who have hit 4 National Provisional marks; Maurus Hope 400 (22nd), 48.53, Barak Watson 5000 (26th) , 14:32.59 and in the  Mile (35th) , 4:13.98 and Rimar Christie 60 (50th), 6.95.
 
Returning All-Conference (top 3) Performers from 2011 for the Crusaders are: Barak Watson Mile 2nd, 4:15.77, Barak Watson 5000 2nd, 15:18.46, Stephen Larlee Triple Jump 2nd, 46-5 ¼, Maurus Hope 60 Hurdles 3rd, 8.63, Andrew Curtis 400 3rd, 49.91, Melissa Grammer 200 3rd, 25.77, Jasmyn Jewett Triple Jump 3rd, 36-11 ¾, and Joy Warrington Shot Put 3rd, 42-0 ¾.
 
Both the men's and women's teams are upper classmen heavy with 11 of 20 men (Jr. Sr.) and 12 of 20 women (Jr. Sr.) qualified for the meet, but the group of incoming freshman and sophomores won't just be participating quietly. Underclassmen to watch include, Rimar Christie (60m, 60m Hurdles), Stephen Larlee (TJ), and Marie Smith (Pentathlon, 60m Hurdles). Upperclassmen to watch include Maurus Hope (60m hurdles, 200m, 400m), Barak Watson (5,000m, 1mile), Jill Bennett (Pentathlon), Joy Warrington (SP, WT), Molly Reid (LJ) and Christabel Leonce (60m).
 


Events begin Early Friday with the Men's Heptathlon 60m at 10:15 am and the Women's Pentathlon 60m hurdles at 10:45.
