NAMPA, Idaho — Their impact on the field was immediately felt for the Crusaders, and didn't go unnoticed by the rest Great Northwest Athletic Conference, either.
Freshman
Kylie Orr quickly proved to be one of the most lethal threats in the league offensively, and junior transfer
Brooke Bonsen provided the Crusaders with a dominating arm in the circle.
Both were honored by the GNAC coaches on Monday with top awards as Orr was named GNAC Freshman of the Year and Bonsen was co-GNAC Newcomer of the Year the league announced.
Joining that duo in earning honors was freshman
Cassidy Fifield who was named to the All-GNAC Honorable Mention Team.
Orr was named to the All-GNAC First Team, as well, while Bonsen was named to the All-GNAC Second Team.
Orr led NNU with the fourth-best single season batting average in school history as she hit .393 with five home runs and 35 RBIs.
Defensively, the Crusader first baseman also had a .984 fielding percentage as she recorded 348 putouts and had 17 assists with just six errors playing in all 46 games for NNU.
Bonsen led the NNU pitching staff in wins, going 9-12 on the year with a team-best 3.56 ERA as she pitched 129 2-3 total innings in 29 games, and struck out 64 opposing batters.
Fifield earned honors as a utility played as she started the year in center field and finished the season playing second base. She was second on the team with a .331 batting average, hit three home runs, had 20 RBIs and led the GNAC with 26 stolen bases — a NNU single-season record.
