MONMOUTH, Ore. — The hot streak continues for the Crusader women's soccer team.

Senior Sarah Blum netted her second goal of the season, helping Northwest Nazarene stretch its unbeaten streak to five straight games as the Crusaders grabbed a 1-1 draw on the road at Western Oregon on Saturday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The tie wrapped up a hugely successful league-opening weekend on the road for NNU (2-1-3 overall, 1-0-1 GNAC), which claimed four points in two games.

"It was a physical battle today," NNU head women's soccer coach Mary Trigg said. "We didn't play our best, but it shows how far we've come that we can tie a good team when we're not at our best."

Blum scored 26 minutes, 4 seconds into the contest for the Crusaders — their eighth goal of the week as NNU won 4-2 over Dominican on Monday and 3-1 over St. Martin's on Thursday in both teams' GNAC opener.

A little more than 4 minutes later, Western Oregon (3-2-1, 1-0-1) tied it when Alexis Sutherlin put home a rebound.

That was it for the scoring, though the Wolves had several chances, outshooting NNU 19-8 in the contest and 11-2 in the second half.

But the Crusaders were up to the challenge, holding on for a draw that closes out a busy week on the pitch on a positive note.

Now NNU returns home to host Seattle Pacific on Thursday at 4 p.m. and Central Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m., looking to stretch that unbeaten streak a few more games.
