Doug English Named Head Volleyball Coach for the Crusaders

| By:

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene University Athletic Director Bill Rapp is pleased to announce that Doug English has been named the new women's head volleyball coach for the Crusaders.

“Doug is a great addition to the Crusader coaching family at Northwest Nazarene University,” Rapp commented.  “As an assistant at the Division I level for the past 10 years, Doug has an extensive background in recruiting and his experience has well prepared him to become our head coach. Having both played and coached at a very high level, I am excited for Doug to put his mark on our program here at NNU.”

As the assistant coach at the University of Delaware (UD) the past two seasons, English was part of a program that reached the second-round of the NCAA tournament in 2011 and finished second in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2012.

“I am excited for this opportunity at NNU,” English commented.  “I would like to thank President Alexander and Athletic Director Bill Rapp for their support and the opportunity to lead the volleyball program.  We have a group of talented and motivated young women and I can't wait to get started.”

Prior to UD, English served as the assistant for two years at George Washington University (GW) and three years at Boise State University (BSU).  As the recruiting coordinator at both GW and BSU, Doug recruited a class in 2008 that was recognized by PrepVolleyball.com as one of the top 105 classes in the nation, earning 'Honorable Mention' recognition by the organization.

A first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American on the court in 2003 at Cal State Northridge, Doug was also a 2003 first-team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) selection and a member of the 2003 World University Games training team.

A four-year starter at Cal State Northridge where he earned his B.A. in Mathematics Education, English was also a four-year MPSF All-Academic selection and was named the 2004 Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

In addition to his duties at UD, Doug served as the head coach for the Club Delaware 18's team in 2012 and was the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association 18 Select head coach in 2011.

English will begin his duties at NNU on March 20th.
