Crusaders Defeat Coyotes in Overtime 2-1

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team defeated the College of Idaho in overtime 2-1 in today's match at NNU.
 
The Crusaders came out strong, wasting no time, senior Sarah Staropoli netted in a shot from ten yards out to put NNU on the board 1-0 four minutes into the match. Autumn Yturbe is credited with the assists.
 
The Yotes would respond twelve minutes later as Shea Yuma received a cross from Jessica Ayala and was able to score from 20 yards out to tie the game at 1-1.
 
The Crusaders were in control most of the second half with many opportunities but were unable to convert. Both teams went scoreless in the second half sending the game into extra time.
 
Once again NNU was able to convert early. Junior Whitney Wood was able to send the ball home for a game winning goal from five yards away. Staropoli crossed the ball from the right side to Wood, as she was able to convert, ending the game 2-1.
 
Keeper Tanya Zickefoose earns the win and is now 3-1-0. Melissa Holmes-Joseph drops to 0-3-0.
 
The Crusaders had 16 shots in today's match as College of Idaho was able to get off 2 in first half but were shut out the rest of the game. NNU had 11 corner kicks.
 
The Crusaders now go to 3-1-0 as they will start GNAC play next Thursday as they host Central Washington University in Nampa at 4 p.m.
