BELMONT, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene University women's soccer team lost 3-2 against Notre Dame DeNamur in today's Division II soccer match in Belmont, California.
NDNU got on the board first as Massiel Castellanos got past NNU keeper
Tanya Zickefoose, to put the Argonauts up one in the 27
th minute of play. The score would remain 1-0 after the first period was completed.
In the 59
th minute of play NDNU's Marisa Schneider was able to dribble up the field and get a shot up and in to put NDNU up 2-0.
The Crusaders battled back in the second half. At the 67 minute mark, senior
Macey Vasquez served a free kick into the box and forward
Jenny Field gained possession and converted on a shot to get NNU on the board 2-1. In the 74
th minute, senior
Sarah Staropoli was able to get possession of a loose ball and head it in to tie the game 2-2.
The Argonauts' Jessica Santos was able to slip past the Crusader defense and convert on shot to put NDNU 3-2 in the 78
th minute.
The Crusaders were able to get three shots on goal with the remaining time but were unable to score on the attempts.
“Our girls showed a great level and even after we went down they created some very dangerous chances late in the game.” Commented head coach Jamie Lindvall. “I am very pleased with our level today especially as we finish up a stint of three games in five days.”
Both teams had 14 shot attempts; NNU had thirteen fouls to NDNU's nine.
The Crusaders fall to a 2-1 record overall and will be back on the field Saturday to take on The College of Idaho in Nampa at 12 p.m.
