Field Leads Crusaders Past The Wolves In Overtime

| By:
NAMPA, Idaho – Junior Jenny Field had the game winning goal in double overtime to lift the Crusaders past the Wolves of Western Oregon 4-3 in today's Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer match in Nampa.

“Absolutely great show of character from our women today! I was very impressed with how we kept our heads and in particular how we came out in the second half,” commented head coach Jamie Lindvall.

The Wolves were able convert on two shots in the first half. Lindsay Bauman was able to get a shot off and in from 15 yards out to get the Wolves up 1-0 after 15 minutes of play.  In the 34th minute of play Makana Pundyke was able to get past Tanya Zickefoose and convert on a shot from 5 yards out to put the WOU up 2-0 going into half.

Jenny Field wasted no time as she scored a goal two minutes into the second half after an assist from Autumn Yturbe. Less than three minutes later Field was able to get another shot off from 10 yards out to tie the game at 2-2. Sarah Staropoli was credited with the assist on the play.

The Wolves would respond in the 60th minute as Nikki McCall took a shot from 30 yards out that was able to sneak over the head of Zickefoose to put WOU up 3-2.

With only three minutes remaining in the game junior Celina Mortensen was able to get a shot from the top of the box to tie the game at 3-3, sending it to extra time.

In first overtime neither team was able to convert on their shots.

Once again Jenny Field didn't waste a minute, as she was able to get her third goal of the game and knock in the game-winning goal from just 3 yards out in the second overtime after a deflection off the keeper.

“Our girls put in great service of the ball today and we saw a great hat trick from Jenny including the game winner and a very composed finished from Celina to get us into overtime,” said Lindvall. “I'm really proud of our effort level and mental game today!”

The Crusaders now go to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in GNAC play. The Wolves drop to 3-4-0 and 1-2-0 in conference.

NNU will be back on the field Saturday as they host GNAC #1 seed Montana State Billings. The game will be held in Nampa at noon.
