ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Northwest Nazarene University men's soccer team lost 2-1 in today's soccer match against Cal State- Los Angeles.

CSULA came out with an early score, as Tyler Perez scored from 18 yards out after an assist from Antti Arvola.

The Crusaders went into half down 1-0. The Golden Eagles were able to get another score in the 55th minute of play as Rosario Bras scored from seven yards out as Arvola tallied another assist.

NNU's Jon Curry was able to convert on a shot from 27 yards out in the 75th minute. The Crusaders were unable to put in another goal to force extra time.

“We are disappointed to lose, but at the same time we controlled possession against the 8th ranked team in the nation and could just as easily have won. But, credit to them, they were very dangerous on the counter attack, which is how they scored both goals and that is something we will clean up.” Commented head coach Coe Michaelson. “We will only improve with a lot of new pieces, and so even though we lost, it was a tight match against a very good team, so it is a good barometer for how good we can be.”

The Golden eagles had 8 shots as the Crusaders had 6.

NNU keeper Alfredo Ontiveros gets the loss as Waleed Cassis earns the win for Cal State LA.

The Crusaders will be back in action against Cal State San Bernardino. The game will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in St. George, Utah.
