NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene University men's soccer team lost 4-3 in overtime after a second-half comeback to Western Washington University today in Nampa, Idaho.

Justin Moore scored 17 seconds into the game after a Crusader defender slipped, and Moore scored again for the Vikings (6-7-2, 4-5-2 GNAC) 4:40 later, as WWU grabbed a 3-0 lead they couldn't maintain.

Hard-charging NNU (7-4-4, 6-2-3) held the Vikes shot-less in the second half, and a hand-ball in the WWU goal box with 33:56 left in regulation led to a Stephen Marshall penalty-kick goal, igniting the comeback.

John DiLulo chipped a ball towards goal that Evan McNiel headed in with 17:38 left in regulation, trimming the difference to 3-2, then Jaime Torres was taken down in the goal box, resulting in another PK that Marshall converted with 9:25 on the clock, tying the game for NNU.

“You can't ask anything more then what they gave that second half and it's a shame they didn't find the fourth 'cause the deserved it,” NNU coach Coe Michaelson said of his team.

Turns out, the Vikings found goal No. 4 first, in the fleeting seconds of the first overtime.

With 5 seconds left on the clock, Dean Byron's throw-in from the right sideline bounced to Sujinda Dangvan, whose shot was
blocked, but Conner Pichette tapped in the loose ball, finishing the upset.

“We haven't been broken down for a goal even once today,” Michaelson said. “We've slipped and fallen down, we've whiffed on two and we've had one go through our hands, and that's pretty hard to believe considering how good we've been defensively all year.”

“Can't give away goals like that and expect to win, it's that simple.”

Alfredo Ontiveros had two saves in goal for NNU, while Keegan Rogers stopped four shots for the Vikings, who were outshot 14-9.
