SPOKANE, Wash. - Northwest Nazarene's
Rimar Christie and
Alla Dzhidzhiyeshvili have each been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athletes-of-the-Week in their respective sports, as announced this morning by the conference office in Spokane.
Christie, (So., St. Michael, Barbados - Queens College) finished third in the 60 meters and fourth in the 60 hurdles in the Boise State Bronco Invitational. His times of 6.95 and 8.44 are GNAC season-bests and also rank fifth and eighth, respectively, on the GNAC All-Time Career chart. His 60 time also equaled the NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying standard.
Dzhidzhiyeshvili, (Sr., Ontario, OR - TVCC) who came into Saturday's game, ranked 12th nationally in steals averaging 3.3, had six steals and also scored 20 points as the Crusaders beat Western Washington 75-62. In two wins over teams who started the week with a combined four conference losses, she had 40 points, 11 steals, seven rebounds and five assists as NNU pulled to within a game of second place in the GNAC race. The Crusaders defeated Simon Fraser 76-72 last Thursday.
Alla shares the award this week with Nicole Hartzog of Alaska Fairbanks. Hartzog led the Nanooks to back-to-back conference wins for the first time since 2008 and helped UAF end a 21-game conference losing streak.
