Men's XC team at Curran Start

Stark and Jaggi finish 1-2, Puga second at UAF Invitational Short Course Races

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 1-2 finish of Matt Stark and Ryan Jaggi and Jaclyn Puga's second-place effort paced the Northwest Nazarene cross country teams as they competed in the short-course (4k) races at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
 
In the tri-meet format the men's race was as close as possible as Seattle Pacific finished first with 41 points, UAF was second with 42, and NNU third with 43.  In the women's scoring the Crusaders finished second today as the host Nanooks were first with 32 points, NNU with 46, and Seattle Pacific with 49. 
 
Matt Stark posted a four-second victory over teammate Ryan Jaggi in respective times of 13:00 and 13:04 to finish Gold and Silver.  Benard Ngeno was third for the Crusaders in sixth place overall at 13:20.  Other results for the Crusader men included Josh Merioles (24th, 14:22), Alex Crystal (25th, 14:24), Justin Webb (29th, 14:55), and Caleb Reynolds (30th, 14:56).
 
Puga's second-place time of 15:25 was only six-seconds behind the winner from Raphaela Sieber of UAF (15:19).  Jordan Powell finished sixth (16:09) and Natalie Evans was seventh (16:10) to also post top-10 finishes.  Rounding out the Crusader five were Christine Harwood (14th, 16:41) and Chelsea Layne (21st, 18:09).
