SALT LAKE CITY - Sarah Swenson tapped in a Lisa Johnson cross in the 98th minute as Westminster College defeated Northwest Nazarene University 1-0 in a women's soccer exhibition match on Tuesday afternoon in Utah.

 

The Griffins held a 15-7 advantage in shots, but the Crusaders were efficient as NNU forced WC goalkeeper Lindsay Bekken into five saves on the seven attempts.  NNU keeper Tanya Zickefoose hustled for five saves against the single goal. 

 

"I thought we played well against a good team that is in their third week of practice," commented NNU head coach Jamie Lindvall.

 

Sarah Staropoli led NNU with three shots on goal, while McKenzie Bailey and Stacey Beckman each had one.

 

The Crusaders will open regular season play on September 2nd, hosting The College of Idaho at 4:00 p.m. at the NNU Soccer Field.  Today's exhibition match is the only pre-season match for the Crusaders, who also scrimmaged North Idaho College last Friday in Nampa.
