NAMPA, Idaho - The Montana State University Billings softball team swept a Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Crusaders on Saturday afternoon 4-3 and 8-5 at Halle Field on the NNU campus.

The teams split the weekend series, as NNU took both games on Friday afternoon.  MSUB improved to 17-22 overall and 14-14 in GNAC play, while NNU falls to 9-29 overall and 8-23 in league games.

Nicole Grummons and Cat Lowery led the Crusaders in game one, each going 2-for-4.  Lowery had an RBI single in the fifth and Sara Varady added a two-run single in the sixth.

Tied at 3-3 in the seventh, the Yellowjackets scored an unearned run on a throwing error to win the game in the top half of the inning, as the Crusaders couldn't answer in the bottom of the frame.

Grummons (5-13) took the pitching loss, while Lindsey Trenary (11-8) earned the win for MSUB.

Game two saw the 'Jackets score one in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth to take control of the contest.  MSUB had 14 hits in the game to support winning pitcher Josie Grotbo (4-8), while NNU's Dana Shipley (0-2) took the loss.

Cara Duckworth was 2-for-3 to lead the Crusaders and Becky Louber had a team-high two RBI, plating both with a single in the sixth inning.

The Crusaders will travel to Central Washington University next Friday and Saturday for a four-game GNAC series with the Wildcats.
