Up at 9 a.m. on a holiday morning? NNU students came to the Johnson Sports Center this morning to cut fabric and help make blankets to be sent with relief efforts to Haiti.
The brainchild of NNU SGA Community Relations Coordinator Rob Uehlin, the students partnered with a local organization called Project Linus to engage in a creative and hands-on project.
Project Linus is one of the Disney-sponsored organizations and 190 students have signed up to participate in the project, which will ship the blankets directly to Haiti.
"This morning we had 140 of those students come out to make blankets for Haiti and write letters to their state Senators concerning Haiti and environmental sustainability. We made 200 blankets and wrote over 100 letters," commented Kenton Lee, NNU Assistant Director of Campus Life.
The students will get a unique reward for their efforts, as each student who participated will receive a free Disneyland ticket through Project Linus and Disney. The SGA is planning a weekend two-bus trip in April for 100 of the students to visit Disneyland.
