NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene Crusader Track & Field team opened up its’ 2010 Indoor track schedule at the Bronco Invitational Saturday at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.

Leading the Crusader performances was Joy Warrington (So. Colorado Springs, Co) in the Shot Put with a NCAA Provisional throw and new school record of 13.63m (44’ 8.75”). Warrington broke the school record she set last year as a freshman, and her throw currently ranks her 10th on the DII National Provisional list.

Other performances that were just shy of NNU School records were turned in by Barak Watson (Fr. Nampa, ID) and Matt Stark (So. Meridian, ID).

Watson had an impressive double on Saturday placing 2nd in the 1 mile with a time of 4:20.15 and placed 1st in the 3,000m with a convincing win over Boise State’s Sawyer Bosch, with a time of 8:36.99. Watson’s time was less than a second off the existing school record of 8:36.00.

Stark placed 8th in the 800m with a time of 1:56.65, just off the school record of 1:55.47. Stark has been dealing with swelling in his right knee, but was cleared by doctors as long as he could deal with the pain, making his run at the school record this weekend even more exciting.

Coach John Spatz was happy with the Crusaders performances this weekend. “We had a good group of provisional and automatic qualifiers for the GNAC Conference meet this weekend, I fully expect that trend to continue over the next two weeks as we lead up to hosting  the Conference Championships here at home on Feb 20th.”

The Crusaders continue their 2010 indoor track and field season this coming Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4-5 at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho. The meet will consist of collegiate competitions, master's competitions and junior competitions. Friday's start time is slated for 5 p.m. with four collegiate field events (Men’s Pole Vault, Women’s long jump, Women’s weight throw and the Men’s shot put) , while the track events begin at 5:10 p.m.( Distance medley relay, 3,000m, and the 200m). Saturday's events begin 9 a.m.
