NAMPA, Idaho - On the heels of the Crusaders upset of #1-ranked Alaska Anchorage, the Northwest Nazarene women's basketball team jumped two spots in the NCAA West Region poll and now sit in seventh with two weeks to play in the regular season.
Seattle Pacific moved into the No. 1 slot this week after also beating Alaska Anchorage last week. The Seawolves are now ranked third. Western Washington, NNU and Montana State Billings are ranked fifth, seventh and ninth, respectively.
Five at-large teams will join the GNAC, CCAA and PacWest champions, which receive automatic berths, in the playoffs.
The GNAC and PacWest determine their automatic berths based on their regular-season schedule. The CCAA champion is determined with a post-season tournament.
On the women's side, it will take a ranking of at least in the top seven and perhaps even in the top six to qualify as an at-large as no PacWest team is currently in the Top 10 and a non-ranked team could conceivably win the CCAA post-season tournament.
Grand Canyon currently has a one-game lead over Dixie State for the automatic PacWest berth.
