PETALUMA, Calif. - Northwest Nazarene University senior Dale Raybould fired a five-over par 77 on Monday in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division II West Regional Championships, hosted by Sonoma State University at the Adobe Creek Golf Club in Petaluma, California.
Raybould sits tied for 31st after the first round of the 54-hole event being played over the par 72, 6,840-yard Adobe Creek Golf Club. "Dale is right in the middle of the pack," commented NNU head coach Craig Stensgaard. "Like always, you can't win the tournament today but you can see it get out of reach if you are not careful. Dale did a good job of making pars, staying patient and has put himself in a position to be in the top half of the field after tomorrow's round."
CSU-San Bernardino's Dane Bagnell fired the day's only round in the 60's, a four-under par 68 to lead the field by two strokes. Host Sonoma State's Patrick Bauer and Jarin Todd each shot two-under 70 to sit in a tie for second.
Sonoma State leads the team competition with a three-under par 285, leading second-place Western Washington (293) by eight strokes after one round.
Raybould, selected to compete as an individual in the championships, will begin round two at 8:09 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
