MONMOUTH, Ore. – Laura VonArx and Grant Miller toppled Northwest Nazarene University school records as the Crusader track & field team competed at the Western Oregon University Twilight Meet in Monmouth on Saturday evening.
VonArx finished second in the triple jump competition and set the new NNU mark with a leap of 37-10, missing the NCAA national provisional qualifying (NPQ) mark by just 1 ½ inches, while Miller improved on his own Crusader record in the discus with a toss of 151-6 to also finish in second place.
Ashley Puga finished second in the 800-meters, clocking a time of 2:13.86 and finished two places ahead of sister Jaclyn Puga, who placed fourth with an NPQ time of 2:14.03.
The Crusaders will now wait for the NCAA selections for the national meet, which will be released on Tuesday by the NCAA selection committee. Greg Hamm, Josh Heidegger, Amy Carroll, Ashley Puga, Jaclyn Puga and the women's 4x400 relay team have all hit NPQ's this spring and will await the national selections.
