NAMPA, Idaho - Amy Carroll and Ashley Puga each hit NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying marks and joined Grant Miller and Laura VonArx in setting Northwest Nazarene University school records as the Crusaders hosted the NNU Invitational on Saturday in Nampa.

 

Carroll won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 167-08, breaking the school record by more than 10 feet and vaulting herself into the 12th position nationally.  Puga improved upon her 1500-meter provisional mark with a time of 4:34.26 and hit her first national provisional mark in the 800-meters with a school-record time of 2:14.33.  That mark breaks the 1988 record of 2:14.49, set by Michelle Skyles.

 

Grant Miller improved his own NNU school-record in the discus when he posted a throw of 148-03, adding 19 inches to his record mark of 146-5 set in 2007.

 

Laura VonArx enters the recordbook for the first time, winning the women's triple jump with a leap of 37-4.  VonArx breaks the record of teammate Amanda Merrell-Peters (37-2 1/4) that was set in 2006.

 

The Crusader women's 4x100 relay team swept around the track in 48.81, just missing the Crusader recordbook that stands at 48.75, a record that has stood since 1982.

 

NNU honored Dan Hill, Josh Heidegger, Carroll and Puga as the Crusader Athletes of the Meet.  Hill set two PR's in the 200-meters (23.05) and 400-meters (50.44) and Heidegger set a PR in the discus by more than 20 feet (134-4) and threw just at his PR in winning the javelin (184-6) competition.

 

NNU will now compete at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference championships next weekend in Ellensburg, Washington.  Central Washington University will serve as the host of the event that will be contested on Friday and Saturday at Tomlinson Field on the CWU campus.
